Jersey Electricity was delighted to support Family Nursing and Home Care’s (FNHC) Colour Run 2018 at the weekend. Employees, some with their children, manned the green colour station at the halfway mark of the 5km run along St Aubin’s Bay, while other employees were among the 971 participants.
Though JE has been supporting FNHC every year since 2009 with a Christmas gift of vital equipment, this is the first time the Company has been involved in the Colour Run, now in its third year. JE Communications Manager Lynn Schofield said: ‘We chose to sponsor green because we want people to ‘go green’ by switching from fossil fuels to low carbon electricity for heating and transport - though we certainly turned a few hundred people, including ourselves, green in a more obvious way on Saturday! It was a fantastic event for a very, very worthy cause and we are thrilled to have been part of it.’
Funds raised from previous Colour Runs have enabled FNHC to recruit a Paediatric Palliative Care Worker who provides care for children and their families where there is a diagnosis or recognition of a life-limiting or life-shortening condition.
Funds raised through this year’s event, which exceed £17k, will be used to maintain and develop the Paediatric Palliative Care Worker role. FNHC says: ‘Jersey has an increasing number of children suffering from chronic and acute conditions, requiring long-term or intensive care. By extending the Community Paediatric Service in this way we have be able to reduce the stresses imposed on families caring for a child, therefore families can maintain an independence lifestyle for as long as possible.’
