Following requests from customers for JE to offer rooftop solar, we’ve created a new approach to heating and solar – empowering homeowners switching from oil and gas heating to electricity to make further cost and environmental savings by installing a rooftop solar array.
The innovative Smart Solar bundle is available to customers who are switching their heating system from fossil fuel to electricity, securing further savings on their home energy running costs. Customers can use solar power in the home and heat their hot water through electricity harvested directly from their own roof. Any surplus energy will be bought by JE and directed back to the grid.
As solar technology has become more affordable, it presents customers with the opportunity to make savings on their overall energy use, their home’s carbon footprint and domestic electricity bill – especially when combined with a move to electric heating.
JE’s Director of Business Development Peter Cadiou explained, “We are inviting customers considering switching to electric heating to join our ‘Rooftop Revolution’ by installing solar panels on their roof. We understand that cost is a top priority for customers when making significant decisions about their home heating. By offering a rooftop solar installation and electric heating together, we can empower customers to make greater savings on their energy running costs – immediately and for the longer term.
"To get the best value from a solar array, the technology intelligently directs surplus solar power that isn't used in household appliances into the home’s hot water system which immediately reduces heating costs. If there is a further surplus, the power is redirected into the grid for the benefit of all Islanders – with JE buying the generated power from the customer.

JE’s Smart Solar offer is delivered through trusted partnerships. Led by JE, its building contractor JEBS will manage the heating installation while an approved local solar partner will install the array.
As part of its Smart Solar offer, JE is launching a Rooftop Revolution campaign, inviting Islanders to help to build Jersey’s on-Island renewable power, which making environmental and cost savings.
