40-year-old Werner joined Jersey Electricity two years ago as Head of Digital Technology. In that time, he has helped transform our prepayment system by launching a digital meter top-up platform, ‘Topup-je’, that enables our 4,100 Pay As You Go Meter users to top up their meters anytime from anywhere without leaving their homes.

This year, he helped develop JE’s new energy-saving app, My JE, which over 9,000 customers have already downloaded. The app gives users data on their electricity usage in kWhs (units) and £s, helping them track and reduce consumption, and budget for electricity between their quarterly bills.

His appointment brings a position on our Executive Leadership Team, responsible for recommending objectives, strategy, and performance standards across the JE Group.

CEO Chris Ambler said: ‘Power utilities are increasingly becoming digital businesses, offering energy intelligence as a service, and Werner’s new appointment will ensure Jersey Electricity remains at the forefront of this transformation. His team's contribution over the last two years has been significant and reflects the increasing impact technology will have across the organisation.

‘Technologies are emerging that offer ways for our customers to play an active part in the energy system. Jersey Electricity is looking to a future of smart grids, renewable distributed generation, energy storage, vehicle-to-grid discharging (V2G) and time-of-use tariffs. We are already increasing our focus on how electricity is used ‘beyond the meter’ inside homes to benefit customers and network efficiency as Jersey moves toward carbon neutrality.’
