In the past 18 months, we have progressed two levels, from ‘Compliant’ to ‘Established’, in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) audits conducted by Inclusive Employers.
From a start where JE’s DEI credentials were assessed as ‘Programmatic’, we have taken a look at ourselves as an organisation to understand where we need to improve. As part of this we invited local charity Liberate Jersey to review our workplace to help show areas we needed to concentrate on, such as building DEI principles into our recruitment processes and changing our facilities to accommodate diversity.
We are proud of our inclusive and respectful culture and are now embarking on a proactive journey to consolidate our established status and take the Company to the next level by 2024.
How are we going to reach ‘Integrated’ DEI maturity?
- Building a culture where leaders across JE recognise and advocate for DEI
- Showing the business case for DEI – improved performance and successfully position the Company for the future
- Including DEI measures in JE’s values and business successes
- Ensuring our premises and facilities are welcoming to all
- Demonstrating positive change across the organisation through DEI initiatives by celebrating diversity within our network and with business partners
- Empowering employees to challenge the company on DEI and value the differences we all bring to the workplace
- Embedding DEI accountability through JE and offering progressive policies and processes
- Becoming a business viewed as ‘best practice’ by other companies
There’s a lot of work to be done. But we have clear goals and investment from leaders across JE to reach ‘Integrated’ and enhance JE’s DEI maturity levels.
