Our additional engineers from the UK arrived in Jersey yesterday evening and have already been deployed across the island to bolster our efforts and support our local engineers with the restoration process.

Storm Ciarán has caused extensive damage over a very broad region. The steps to securely re-establish electrical services include meticulously clearing away downed trees, confirming that the zones are safe with no exposed “live” conductors, and then systematically restoring the power. This is an intricate process, where safety is paramount, and our crews are actively working to overcome these obstacles as quickly as they can.

Given that each affected location has its own specific challenges, and that careful planning is needed for restoration, we are not able to give exact schedules for when power will be restored at this time.

Our response teams have been working throughout the weekend in challenging weather conditions to continue to restore power to those customers affected across our community. Access to some locations is also restricted due to downed trees and other damage and this is hampering repairs albeit other agencies are greatly assisting with this and clearing continues.

Current Status

Teams will be working across the island today, continually moving through their list of jobs, safely. This morning our rapid response teams have been deployed to target restoration work at Bouley Bay, Meadowbank, Portelet, Mont Nicolle, Rue des Vignes.

Tree cutting teams have also been deployed across multiple locations preparing sites for restoration.

Latest Restorations Completed

Since 4pm yesterday, an additional 50 customers have regained power. Our current goal is to restore electricity to an estimated 100 customers today, although the conditions continue to be difficult.

Challenges Faced

The severe storm brought down many large trees which have collapsed onto our overhead lines, necessitating their removal for the restoration of supplies. Significant reconstruction has been needed for some of the lines and poles. We've been updating our restoration strategy by evaluating both the number of customers without power and the extent of work needed for repairs, aiming to reinstate power to the greatest number of customers in the shortest time. In areas with extensive network damage, mobile generators and temporary cables laid on the surface are being employed to expedite the supply restoration process. The safety of our people and customers remains our absolute priority.
