People Phil Austin

Phil's background and experience

Most of Phil's career was spent in banking with HSBC in London and Jersey where, from 1997 to 2001, he was Deputy Chief Executive of the Bank’s business in the Offshore Islands.

2001

Phil becomes the founding CEO of Jersey Finance, the body set up as a joint venture between the Government of Jersey and its Finance Industry, to represent and promote the industry at home and abroad.

2009

Phil takes on a portfolio of non-executive directorships, consisting of both public and privately-owned businesses.

2015

Phil is awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business from the University of Plymouth and in January 2016, an MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List.

2016

Phil is appointed to the Jersey Electricity Board.

2019

Phil takes over as Chair.

Outside of Jersey Electricity

Outside of his role at Jersey Electricity, Phil holds the following positions:

  • Chairman of Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust plc
  • Non-Executive Director of Blackstone/GSO Debt Funds (Europe) Ltd
  • Non-Executive Director of Ravenscroft Cash Management Ltd

He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.
