No – I have worked in a variety of roles and industries prior to JE, including a Retail Manager at a Premier League football club and Cabin Crew!
Asset Administrator in the Energy Admin team. I was mainly responsible for entering timesheets, conveyancing and general administrative duties.
I was unhappy at my previous company and really needed a change. I saw the role advertised and had a lot of skills that would transfer really well. I’d had a couple of other job offers within Finance companies around the same time but JE felt like the right place to be, and I’ve never looked back!
I started out as an administrator at La Collette, which was a great introduction to the business. It allowed me to meet and get to know many of my colleagues, whilst learning about JE. It was a great foundation for enhancing my administration skills and discovering the many systems we use!
After a very short while, I realised JE was where I wanted to build a career. Following a quick chat with Chris Evans, Head of HR Operations, we arranged to meet to discuss career options within the Business. Human Resources has always been an interest of mine, but I was never sure how to get into it. A vacancy then arose in the HR team for an administrator which seemed like the perfect opportunity to take that leap into the crazy world of HR! I was successful in my application and then became responsible for onboarding and offboarding employees, maintaining employee records and general administrative duties. I found myself really enjoying that side of things, so I decided to dig deeper into HR and learn as much as I could. JE and the business have always been extremely supportive of my want to progress, allowing me to attend conferences, networking events and most importantly, studying for my CIPD Foundation Certificate in People Practice. Moving into the HR Advisor role was a big step, but my admin experience provided a really strong foundation for me to continue to develop as a HR professional while my CIPD level 3 is providing essential skills and understanding in core HR functions such as recruitment, performance management, employee relations and employee development. I am very grateful to Jersey Electricity for the continued support for my professional growth and I can’t wait to see how far I can go.
The most crucial bit of advice I could give someone is to never stop learning. Be inquisitive, ask questions and always go that little bit extra to fill your knowledge gaps. You’ll be surprised how far that can take you.
